Spaying or nuetering your female before the first heat can prevent breast cancer and urine infections while doing the same
for males before the age of four can prevent testicular cancer, curb aggression and help maintain a healthy prostate.
The best foods for maltese is a dry dog food with meat being the first ingredient, this can be mixed with moist food or canned food but be sure to have enough dry food to prevent tarter build up.Maltese sometimes have digestive problems so try to find a food with high protien and fat content however please avoid giving your pup to many treats high in fat.
Maltese love and require excersize! Make sure you give your pup some time to spread their legs outside the home and let
them soak up some sunlight so thier nose doesn't get pale.
Groom your pup, long hair can take alot of maintanance .For those of you with busy lifestyles perhaps look into getting a short style from a groomer, keep the nails trimmed, if you don't know how to do this safely please take your pet to a groomer or vet as doing this wrong can be uncomfortable or even hurt your maltese.
bathe your maltese regualy because thier white fur can be stained also check the eyes and ears.To remove "tears" or build up around the eye area use a damp cotton ball, if eccessive see your vet.for cleaning ears use baby oil or an ear cleaning solution for dogs once again with a cotton ball.
Maltese do not shed!
So if you have allergies this is a great dog for you!
